What: 2018 Design & Build Canstruction® Competition

When: Begins Friday, December 7th at 4p; Ends Sunday, December 10th 9p (completed creations on public viewing until Dec. 23rd)

Who: Employees from Praxair, Ferguson Electric, Hamburg Gaming, Wendel, Hale Expo Services, Trautman Associates and National Fuel.

Where: Fairgrounds Festival of Lights, Erie County Fairgrounds, Hamburg, New York

HAMBURG, NEW YORK – Beginning Friday evening, December 7th, seven Western New York companies will compete to build structures (Canstructions®) made entirely out of canned goods. Employees from Praxair, Ferguson Electric, Hamburg Gaming, Wendel, Hale Expo Services, Trautman Associates and National Fuel are schedule to participate in the competition with all canned goods used benefitting the Food Bank of Western New York.

Teams will be have a total of 12 hours to build displays, including during the festival hours, 5:00-9:00pm on December 7th, 8th & 9th. Patrons will be able to choose their favorite Canstruction® December 14th-23rd. Judging by a selected panel will take place on December 13th. Canstruction® judging categories will include, “best original design,” “structural ingenuity,” “best use of labels,” “best meal,” “people’s choice,” and “most cans used.”

This year marks the 14th year for what has become a time-honored holiday tradition in Western New York. The Fairgrounds Festival of Lights at the Erie County Fairgrounds in Hamburg runs every weekend through December 16th with an expanded schedule December 19th through the 23rd. The Festival is open from 5:00pm-9:00pm, with the buildings and grounds staying open until 10:00pm. Admission to the Fairgrounds Festival of Lights is $25 per carload at the gate.
