Hamburg, NY – The Southtowns Regional Chamber of Commerce, formerly the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce, is gearing up for the 42nd Annual Hamburg Farmers Market that kicks-off Saturday, May 4, 2019. Keeping with tradition, the local market primarily focuses on locally grown and raised agriculture and animal products. Many of the conventional farmers will return this year along with some new vendors offering different varieties in produce and baked goods. The market also rotates in different farmers each month as local harvests change. Local honey, baked goods, regular and hard cider, wine tastings, animal products like meats and eggs and other products are offered consistently throughout the season. May brings spring greens, onions, scallions, rhubarb, asparagus, and herb and annual plants, along with, some smaller quantities of tomatoes, mushrooms, and other produce items.

Jamie Decker, Farmers Market Manager and Senior Marketing Director at the Chamber said many people ask, “How can you have any local produce this time of year? The answer is that many of our farmers plant in tunnels, covered structures with more controlled environments. It’s where many start out large crops by planting seedlings that eventually go into the fields. So, we start out in May with some spring greens and expand the variety each month as the seasons progress. If you’re looking for mangos or pineapples though, you won’t find those at the Hamburg Farmers Market.  We focus and sell what is grown, raised, or made by NYS locals within about a 45-mile radius of Hamburg, NY.”

The Hamburg Farmers’ Market is held in the Hamburg Village Municipal Parking Lot, 30 Buffalo St. in the heart of the Village of Hamburg.  It opens the first Saturday in May (May 4th) and continues through the last Saturday in October (Oct 26th) from 7:30am-1pm; Rain or Shine! The only day the market is not open for business during its season, is mid-July for the Annual Burgerfest festival.

This year give-a-ways include reusable cloth bags that local businesses sponsored, and balloons for the kids on opening day, thanks to Evans Bank.
