Hamburg, NY – McDuffies Bakery announced on Facebook the small business’s efforts to raise money and collect supplies for Ukrainian relief efforts. Starting on Wednesday, March 23rd and until supplies last, a blue and yellow frosted cookie resembling the Ukrainian flag will be sold McDuffie’s locations in Hamburg, East Aurora, and Clarence.
100% of the proceeds will be donated to the Ukrainian American Freedom Foundation.
The blue in the Ukrainian flag is believed to represent a clear blue sky, while the yellow below represents bountiful fields of wheat in a nod to being the “Breadbasket” of Europe.
“Giving back and serving others here at home and even around the world is important to our small business. Our loyal customers have big hearts as well. We know these phenomenal cookies will sell out quickly. Every penny raised will directly benefit those suffering in Ukraine,” said McDuffies Bakery CEO Brian Thomas.
In addition to the sale of blue and yellow cookies, McDuffies Bakery is collecting the following items that can be dropped off at any one of their three Erie County locations: Diapers, baby formula, baby cereal, wet wipes, protein bars, pain and fever reducers, underwear, socks, hats, gloves, warm fleece clothes, and any personal hygiene items.
Once items are collected they will be taken to Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Cheektowaga for shipment to Ukraine.
